Helloooo,
I finally finished a book this month! It was called Demon Copperhead, which was about a young boy growing up in rural America in the nineties through the opioid crisis (so, cheery stuff). I’ve started The Bee Sting by Paul Murray next - let me know if you’ve read either!
Some telly I’ve been enjoying these past few weeks:
Austin - BBC iplayer:
Watched the whole series on a long-haul flight, as I’m not a great flyer so was looking for something wholesome to keep me distracted. It’s a show about a British couple who write children’s books, but the husband gets cancelled for an unfortunate tweet. He discovers he has a long lost son in Australia who has autism and uses this to get the general public back on side. Maybe it was the altitude as I’ve seen some fairly scathing reviews, but I thought it was a really sweet & witty show.
Race Across the World - BBC iplayer:
Back for another series, the five teams start at the Great Wall of China and will travel through China and down India to try and reach the final destination first and without spending all of their small budget. There is a competitive element to this show, but really it just gives you an amazing insight into the more unexplored corners of the world. It will also give you faith in humanity as the people they meet along the way are so generous and kind even if they can’t speak a word to each other!
The Quilters - Netflix:
This is a short documentary (only 30 mins) but it really packs a punch. It follows inmates in a high security prison in the US who make quilts for local foster children. They are all so dedicated to their craft and the skill & patience required is something!
Podcasts:
Desert Island Discs - Danny Dyer:
Danny being as honest as ever! Loved the Lucy Rose track he chose.
Music:
This was advertised to me on Instagram. It’s an hour of some country music classics if that’s your thing! And even if it’s not, I think it would be hard to resist a bit of Shania Twain & Dolly Parton.
Another NTS show I would recommend - there are a few episodes to play from last year! Think lots of soul & disco i.e. perfect for the sunny weather. A soundtrack for your next BBQ maybe?
As always, lemme know what you’re enjoying.
xoxo
Yes to this Olivia Dean NTS rec! Gonna make my morning!
